'Creating the Women's' for Baulderstone / Bilfinger Berger – This 92-page, large format book was produced as a tribute and gift to all those involved in designing and building the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne. The challenge of marrying an elegant environment designed for women, with the somewhat 'masculine' processes of building construction, resulted in a book of intriguing contrasts. The semi-abstract images of photographer Peter Garnick transforms concrete and scaffolding into beautifully textural art. Close-ups of fabrics and finishes, matched with the colour scheme of the building interiors, presents a warm and reassuring environment. The reader's experience was made tactile, by combining a very 'toothy', uncoated paper with both high gloss and transparent leaves.
